Forgive me if this is off topic but is 30 a lot? Would that be equivalent to a kings ransom or a day's pay? (I know it's not really relevant but I've always wondered.)
Hi Duffy,
According to Exodus 21:32, thirty pieces of silver represented the amount a slave owner was to compensated for the loss of a slave who has been gored by an ox.
Perhaps a more important assessment of the value of the thirty pieces of silver arises from the allusion to Zechariah 11:12. In Zechariah, the thirty pieces of silver is the wages of the rejected shepherd (See Matthew (The Navarre Bible) p. 217; R.T. France, Matthew p. 364).
I hope that this helps.
Blessings,
Vaughn
Thanks!
