MUSINGS - Two longings...

"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be."
(John 14:3-6)

How is it that so many Christians reduce the faith to a thing without passion? Jesus and the Apostles knew nothing of this! Today's reading exposes Jesus' and the Apostles' hearts. He anticipates missing them fiercely, and he suspects that they are going to miss him, too!

BTW - Those who know Christ do not long for heaven because they wish to escape this world. No! They long for heaven because that is where Jesus is!

Today's Readings: Friday, May 12th, 2006.

Hmm...I think many people have a passion for faith but in the abstract. We are so busy and distracted it's not always easy to frame things properly. Similarly, how many times do you go to Mass on Sunday only to be met with a meandering, confusing homily?

Duffy, your comment reminded me of one of the warnings from the parable of the Sower. Sometimes the thing that threatens faith is not dramatic, but just the ordinary cares of this life. Your comment, echoing as it does our Lord's concern is a call to do the things that help to keep us focused.

BTW - Good homilies would make it easier for us to stay on track, too!
